“Do you want to get well?”

Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

Hi:

It seems there is a correction in your model equations. The trends are OK. But, the mole fraction equation seems to have some mistakes.
Please check your files.

Best regards.

Resist the temptation to trifle with other people’s feelings. It may be fun to “play the fish”, like a trout on a fly line, but it is cruel, it is dishonest, and it is dangerous. – Elizabeth Elliot

How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?

I need a new pair of slippers

The thong of my slippers broke yesterday, at a very fun public place, where everybody takes bus from in school. Someone who looked like an engin professor was there, gave me an advice to stick something to the bottom, and said something like: Find a way, come on, you’re an engineer right?
It must be because of my engin student attire.

But I survived with the broken flip flop til six hours later. I had a choice between walking without one or both slippers, or sticking two hair pins to the bottom of the sandal and limping my way here and there. Since I’m an engineer (okay, more because it’s kinda embarassing to remove the sandal), I chose the latter, kinda stealing the thunder from a friend who was also limping because of real reason.

I’ve had at least three previous incidents of broken thongs that I could recall. One under the rain, at Orchard Road, and two in school, at PGP and the very same place, the computer center bus stop. All involved me feeling embarrassed, a lot of laughters, people staring and questioning.

Maybe I should stop using thong slippers and flipflops, four times is a tad too many right..

Once again

Keep believing, keep going..

Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine;
Living with Jesus, a new life divine;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

*Moment by moment I’m kept in His love;
Moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine;
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

Never a trial that He is not there,
Never a burden that He doth not bear,
Never a sorrow that He doth not share,
Moment by moment, I’m under His care.

Never a heartache, and never a groan,
Never a teardrop, and never a moan;
Never a danger but there on the throne,
Moment by moment He thinks of His own.

Never a weakness that He doth not feel,
Never a sickness that He cannot heal;
Moment by moment, in woe or in weal,
Jesus my Savior abides with me still.

The sermon yesterday by Rev Billy was beautiful, as always.

May the Force be with you

Since the semester started, I’ve had my weekly headache back, which really annoys me. Despite my effort to stay healthy, sticking to regular meals and seven hours sleep daily, the headache still creeps in. I have to take a few dosages of panadol and spend many many hours to sleep the headache away, and end up feeling drowsy and lazy the next day. And much force is required to fight off the inertia before I can go back to studying and FYPing (which a friend who’s under the same professor calls “F.rooqing”). Alright this is probably just another excuse I’ve made up for myself, but seriously..

And I wonder when I will ever learn the art of forcing myself, with the kind of Force that moves people greatly.

My atheist religion lecturer in Ch.na once said about the teacher-missionaries there: They are so dedicated and committed to their work it makes people wonder what’s the Force behind them. Why do people do what they do? Why would people suffer for a cause? I would say that the most effective kind of force that works is the kind that has ‘love’ or ‘conviction’ written all over it. When you do it out of love, or because you truly believe in the action/aftermath, it’s just so so much easier.

I need to relearn the words ‘love’ and ‘conviction’. And before I get there, some ’self-discipline’ will probably help.

We have this pasted on the door, it was taken 2 years ago. Just got me thinking, we’ve known each other for eight years already! Can put something like “Since 2001″ or something haha.

“Papa usually lets me struggle.”

My little niece Gallaudet Howard taught me something important when she was about three years old. Seeing that she was having difficulty with the sleeves, I asked her if I could help her put her dress on. “Oh, never mind,” she said, “Papa usually lets me struggle.” What kind of father is that? A wise one. Her father, my brother Tom, is also a very sensitive one, aware of the importance of struggle in the process of growth.

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10

I had to write an essay on the necessity of pain in the meaningful fulfillment of religious obligations for my term paper due last week. Argued that pain is in fact necessary, but only when followed by the the desirable responses from the believers. Because pain is not an end in itself, and it’s just gonna be around for a little while..

Top of the world?

I’m on the top of the world, looking down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I’ve found..

Sleeping on the upper deck is like having my own tree house (with all the climbing) and being on top of the world (looking down on creation.. in the form of my roommate and her iMac). Another thing is that people can’t really see me when I sleep there, it’s like I’m there but I’m not there, you know. Proven by a picture of the room taken by roommate when I was sleeping, you totally can’t see me.

Went for NUS Guitar Ensemble concert the other day, kinda reminded me of the guitar days back in TJ. Definitely miss the people and all the silly things we did, but not sure about playing guitar itself. Had my first supper (treat) in Fong Seng of the semester (or of the year?), with lovable company ;)

Again and again, it’s high time I start doing what I intend to do, instead just thinking about it, and being so willing to do it..

My hope lives not because I am not a sinner, but because I am a sinner for whom Christ died; my trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, he is my righteousness. My faith rests not upon what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what he has done, and in what he is now doing for me.

On Laziness

Lazy people are too lazy to stop being lazy, too lazy to repent?

-

Prov. 21:25     The sluggard’s craving will be the death of him,   because his hands refuse to work.

Prov. 26:14     As a door turns on its hinges,   so a sluggard turns on his bed.

Prov. 26:13     The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road,   a fierce lion roaming the streets!”

Prov. 6:6     Go to the ant, you sluggard;   consider its ways and be wise!

Prov. 26:16     The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes   than seven men who answer discreetly.

Prov. 13:4     The sluggard craves and gets nothing,   but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.

Is. 56:10     Israel’s watchmen are blind,   they all lack knowledge;  they are all mute dogs,   they cannot bark;  they lie around and dream,   they love to sleep.

Prov. 10:26     As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,   so is a sluggard to those who send him.

Prov. 20:13     Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;   stay awake and you will have food to spare.

Eccl. 10:18     If a man is lazy, the rafters sag;   if his hands are idle, the house leaks.

Prov. 12:24     Diligent hands will rule,   but laziness ends in slave labor.

Prov. 12:27     The lazy man does not roast his game,   but the diligent man prizes his possessions.

At the Lord’s feet

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:38-42

Swing, swing

My roommate and I squeezed in a major room revamp in the midst of busyness last week, she did the research, while it was all kinda impromptu for me. The two of us went to Ikea, picked up tables and chairs, lamps and whatnots. The shopping was kinda fun but what followed wasn’t really, we ended up having trouble in getting all our shopping items back home, the tables are too long for the taxis! But very coincidentally (or not) we found a bigger taxi, got trapped in a jam for an hour, and reached home safely where our double deck bed was awaiting. After assembling these furniture with the help of three strong guys, we now have a nice proper workspace and a decent place to sleep!

With a dekstop on my table, and comsol with matlab installed, I have no excuse neglecting my FYP anymore.

And talking about my FYP, which is on pressure swing adsorption, I think I’ve been having pressure swings, I get stressed out (high pressure) and totally relaxed (low pressure) about it simultaneously, which is really bad, because it spells out inconsistency. Since it’s already half a semester, I should get into the swing of things quickly and seriously..

I sleep on the upper deck now, where I have to climb before I get to sleep.
